Provenienz:
- Sammlung des Comte de Lichy, Dorat, Haute Vienne (gemäss Etikett auf der Rückseite).
- Sotheby's, London, 4.5.1977, Lot 301.

Noëls orientalistische Schaffensphase, die von 1841–47 anhielt, lässt bis heute noch viele Fragen offen. Gustave Vapereau schreibt in seinem biographischen Artikel über den Künstler, dass Noël in den Jahren 1843–45 eine Reise in den Orient unternommen hat. Brillaud-Laujardière, schreibt jedoch in seiner Biographie, dass Noël diese Reise lediglich in seiner Fantasie unternommen habe, was auch Michel Rodrigue bestätigt. Allerdings unternahm Noël unter der Schirmherrschaft des Herzogs von Nemours tatsächlich eine Reise nach Algerien, wo er 1881 verstarb.
