During viewing days, objects can be examined in detail. Catalogue descriptions were written to the best of conscience and belief. No liability shall be incurred for the details given. Condition, age, authenticity, ascription to an artist or an era, identification, signatures and dates, and possible imperfections or restorations must be examined by the prospective buyer.

Absentee Bids

For the Floor Auction:

Absentee bids may be submitted for all the lots in an auction. Bids below the lower estimate will not be accepted. The catalogue numbers specified in the bidder form are legally binding and not the name of the item. The auctioneer executes commission bids by bidding against saleroom bids at his sole discretion. Consequently, if there is little interest in the saleroom, the knockdown price may be lower than the commission bid. Bids are executed on a first-in first-served basis. In the event of a tie bid in value, the earliest recorded bid is the successful bid.

For the Blue Numbers Auction:

Bids for objects listed in the blue pages of the catalogue under the heading «Schriftliche Auktion» must be submitted in writing or online through Bids below the lower estimate will not be accepted. The catalogue numbers specified in the bidder form are legally binding and not the name of the item. Bids are executed on a first-in first-served basis. The highest bid is successful, whereby the auctioneer executes commission bids at the lowest possible price, i.e. one bidding step above the second-highest bid. In the event of a tie bid in value, the earliest recorded bid is the successful bid. For organizational reasons, commission bids for the «Blue Numbers Auction» must arrive at the auction house no later than 18:00 hours on the evening of the last viewing day. Bid information is not sent out. Invoices are issued without discounts on the Wednesday of the actual auction week.

All auction items will be auctioned live online on If you wish to bid online, please register for the auction on liveauctioneers early and refer to the schedule in our catalogue or on Please note that liveauctioneers uses «Pacific Time». Our auction sessions always start at 9 a.m. local (swiss) time.

Items of the Blue Numbers Auction will be auctioned live online on on the Monday following the viewing period. Please register early

Absentee bids sent directly to Schuler Auktionen will be privileged over online absentee bids of the same value.

Buyer’s premium for all items sold through liveauctioneers is 23%.

Telephone Bids

Telephone bids are accepted for objects in the floor auction with an estimate of CHF 1’000.– or above and only to a limited extent. Telephone bids must be submitted in writing and arrive no later than 24 hours before the start of the relevant auction. Schuler Auktionen reserves the right to refuse telephone bids when its capacity is overstretched. We do not accept liability for any failed bids due to telephone connection problems.

Payment and Collection

A buyer’s premium is added to the hammer price of each lot sold:

Up to CHF 5’000.– 20,0% plus VAT
From CHF 5’001.– to CHF 5'000.- 18,6% plus VAT

From CHF 50’001.– 16,6% plus VAT 23,0% plus VAT

the percentages listed above relate to the knockdown price of each object. The purchaser is required to pay value added tax on the premium. This premium applies to dealers, wholesalers as well as private clients.

All objects marked with * are fully subjected to value added tax, i.e. for these objects, VAT has to be paid on the hammer price as well as on the buyer’s premium.

VAT amounts will be refunded to buyers who produce a valid export declaration and their bank reference.

All auction invoices are payable immediately or within 10 days of the date of invoice without deductions. Bills are deemed as paid within the stipulated time limit only after receipt of the cash amount or remittance by banker’s order.

For security and transparency reasons, invoice amounts above CHF 10’000.– must be paid using a bank transfer. We do not accept cheques or credit cards. For payments through PayPal, an additional fee of 4% of the total amount will be charged. Invoices may be paid in Swiss francs or euros. In the event of a late settlement of the account, the buyer bears the cost of any exchange rate differences.

Objects purchased at auction will be delivered to the buyer once payment in full has been made. We specifically draw your attention to the buyers conditions listed at the beginning of the catalogue and, in particular, to clauses 3 and 4.

Purchased lots are ready for collection either immediately after each auction session or within the following Monday and Tuesday. Any purchased items not collected within two weeks of the start of the auction will be stored with the shipping company, Seiler (Brauerstrasse 55, 8004 Zürich, T +41 44 242 19 19), at the buyer’s expense (CHF 5.–/object/day) without prior notice due to space constraints.


We do neither pack nor ship ourselves. Our partner for packing and shipping, YSDS (Your Special Delivery Service) will gladly quote you for international and national shipments. Please take note that import taxes (VAT) and duties of the recipient country will be charged to the importer (recipient) additionally.
