1893 wird die Firma Richard & Karl (Carl) Adam in Königsberg (Ostpreußen) gegründet. Der "Laufende Käfer" gehört zu den bekanntesten Erfindungen Carl Adams. Das Warenzeichen der Firma - eine Ballerina auf Kugel - wird später von seinem Nachfolger Lewin Minkowski & Sohn benutzt. 1898 kauft Ernst Paul Lehmann Adams Fabrik einschliesslich aller Patente und Warenzeichen auf.
