5605. Gottesmutter des Zeichens
Südrussisch, datiert 14. April 1788. Tempera über Kreidegrund auf Holz. Darstellung der betenden Gottesmutter über Mondsichel. Vor ihrer Brust Christus Emanuel in gefaltetem Tuch. Inschriften und Jahreszahl. 30x24,5 cm.

Das Vorbild für die russischen Ikonen dieses Themas ist die wundertätige Ikone von Novgorod. Bei der Belagerung der Stadt im Jahr 1170 wurde sie auf die Stadtmauer gestellt und wehrte der Legende nach den Sturm der Susdaler ab. Seit diesem Ereignis ist die Gottesmutter des Zeichens im russischen Raum sehr beliebt.
Die Ikone wird auch als "Gottesmutter von der Geburtshilfe" bezeichnet und gerne an werdende Mütter verschenkt.
