Provenienz: Durch Erbschaft aus der Familie der Dargestellten in heutigen Schweizer Privatbesitz.
Julius Schrader war ein Deutscher Maler der Düsseldorfer Schule und wurde durch Portraits und Historiengemälde bekannt. Bei den hier portraitieren Mädchen handelt es sich um Anni und Else Simrock, Töchter von Friedrich Simrock (Bonn 1837 – 1901 Ouchy, Lausanne), einem bekannten deutschen Musikverleger. Dieser führte das 1793 von seinem Grossvater gegründete Unternehmen „N.Simrock“, welches die Werke bedeutender Komponisten der Zeit herausgab, darunter jene von Joseph Haydn, Ludwig van Beethoven, Robert Schumann, Johannes Brahms, Antonín Dvorák, und Johann Strauss.
In den Archiven des Brahms-Institutes in Berlin befindet sich unter der Nummer 32930 eine Fotografie vom Juli 1872, worauf Anni und Else in der gleichen Pose dargestellt sind.
