532. Tierfigur "Löwendenkmal Luzern"
Brienz, A. 20.Jh., nach dem Entwurf von Bertel Thorvaldsen (1818/19). Holz geschnitzt und gebeizt. Sterbender Löwe. Am Sockel Inschrift: "HELVETIORUM FIDEI AC VIRTUTI. DIE X AUGUSTI. II ET III SEPTEMBRIS MDCCXCII.". Bezeichnet: "STUDIO C PFEYFFER. ARTE. A THORWALDSEN. OPERA L AHORN". L 65 cm.

Das Löwendenkmal in Luzern wurde auf Initiative des Gardeoffiziers Carl Pfyffer von Altishofen zu Ehren seiner Kameraden errichtet. Rund 1000 Gardes suisses verteidigten 1792 den von Revolutionären gestürmten leeren Tuilerienpalast in Paris, etwa 760 fanden dabei den Tod. Das Denkmal wurde nach dem Entwurf des berühmten dänischen Bildhauers Bertel Thorvaldsen (1770–1844) zuerst vom Bildhauer Urs Pankraz Eggenschwiler (der nach kurzer Zeit verunglückte) und anschliessend vom Konstanzer Lukas Ahorn in den ehemaligen Sandsteinbruch bei Luzern gehauen und 1821 eingeweiht.
