1069. Kleines Steinrelief mit Szenen aus dem Leben Buddhas
Burma, wohl 12./13.Jh. Pagan-Stil. Andagu-Stein. Kleines, dicht und detailliert geschnitztes Relief, die acht Ereignisse aus dem Leben Buddhas darstellend. Im Zentrum sitzt Buddha auf doppeltem Lotosthron, flankiert von zwei Bodhisattvas, die Geste der Erdberührung zeigend. Der äussere Rahmen zeigt von unten links, gegen den Uhrzeigersinn, sieben weitere bedeutende Momente seines Lebens: Die Geburt in Lumbini, seine erste Predigt in Sarnath, die Bändigung des Nalagari-Elefanten, dem Tod und Eingang ins Nirvana in Kushinagar, dem Wunder von Sravasti, dem Abstieg vom Tavatimsa-Himmel und endend mit dem Erhalt von Honig in Vaishali. Die zweireihige Basis ist dekoriert mit Elefanten, Löwen und Atlanten im oberen Register, die sieben Schätze des chakravartin, chakra, Elefant, Pferd, Juwel, Frau, Hausvater, Feldherr im unteren Register. Boden ausgehöhlt. Glatte Rückseite. Feine rote Adern im Stein. Linke, sitzende Figur geklebt. H 8,8 cm.
