Pauline Borghese, die Schwester von Napoleon Bonaparte, sass dem Künstler Canova 1807 für dessen Marmorskulpturen "The Venus Borghese" und "Ruhende Venus" unbekleidet Modell. Dies löste einen Skandal aus. Das Kunstwerk erregte jedoch weithin Bewunderung, es befindet sich bis heute im Museum der Villa Borghese (Rom).
