3100. Ferrari, Gaudenzio

Piemontesischer Nachfolger um 1560/70
Maria und Josef verehren das von Engeln gehaltene Jesuskind, dahinter der Heilige Hieronymus und ein Gläubiger. Öl auf Holz. 89x61cm.

Provenienz:
- Th. Engelmann, Basel, gem. rückseitigem Etikett.
- Kunsthaus Pro Arte, Basel, Nachlass Dr. Theodor Engelmann, Sammlung E. Paravicini und anderer Besitz, 14. März bis 16. März 1932, Lot 212 (als niederländische Schule 16.Jh., eh. dem Umkreis Ferraris zugeschrieben).
- Schweizer Privatsammlung.
Die Komposition mit den Figuren des Heiligen Joseph, der Maria sowie der Engel, die das Jesuskind halten, stammt seitenverkehrt von einem der Fresken von Gaudenzio Ferrari in der Kirche San Cristoforo in Vercelli (Kapelle der Hl. Maddalena), vgl. dazu z.B. Il Rinascimento di Gaudenzio Ferrari, Ausst.-Kat. Mailand, 2018, S. 392, 396, 398-400.
Der Maler der hier vorliegenden Tafel ist möglicherweise ein Nachfolger Ferraris, der im Atelier von dessen Schüler Gerolamo Giovenone oder in jenem von Bernardino Lanino tätig war.
