642. Folterzange
Deutschland/Schweiz, 16./17. Jh. Zangenkopf in Form eines geschnittenen Drachenkopfs mit runden Augen, spitzen Ohren und ebensolchen Zähnen. Gelenk mit einfachem Stiftniet. Griffe aus mindestens fünf feuerverschweissten Vierkantsegmenten zusammengesetzt. L 45,5 cm.
Die aus mehreren Reststücken zeitaufwändig zusammengesetzten Zangengriffe deuten auf einen Schmied, der nichts von seinem wertvollen Werkstoff verschwenden wollte. Die Gestaltung des eher hundeähnlichen "Drachengesichts" belegt dazuhin, dass der Handwerker zeigen wollte, was er konnte. Diese beiden Umstände sprechen m. E. eher für die angegebene Datierung, als für eine Ansprache als Historismus-Produkt.
