Eine Bestätigung vom Artloss Register, dass die Provenienzrecherche für dieses Werk keinen Treffer ergegeben hat, ist vorhanden (S00257133).
Die Komposition des vorliegenden Gemäldes muss sich im 17. Jahrhundert grosser Beliebtheit erfreut haben. Obwohl sie stilistisch mit keinem der authentischen Arbeiten von Gabriel Metsu übereinstimmt, ist im Werkkatalog von Adriaan Waiboer über Gabriel Metsu ein praktisch identisches Werk aufgeführt, das ebenfalls von unbekannter Hand ist, jedoch einst Gabriel Metsu, dann Jacob Toorenvliet und schliesslich Karel Slabbaert zugeschrieben worden war (vgl. Waiboer, Adriaan E., S. 322 (D-31)). Diese Zuschreibungen werden heute zurückgewiesen (vgl. RKD 186694).
