Bei dieser Parkszene handelt es sich um ein Lieblingsmotiv des Künstlers, welches er immer wieder, insbesondere im Jahr 1897, aufgenommen hat. Das hier angebotene Gemälde, gehört zu den ersten italienischen Parkszenen Kanoldts, wie das Werk "Merkur sucht Psyche, um sie zum Olymp zu führen" (Nr. 121). Es ist, bis auf kleine Unterschiede, mit den Werken "Villa d'Este. Baukunst des Rokoko" (Nr. 229), "Am Schwanenteich" (Nr. 270) und "Treppenaufgang in der Villa d'Este" (Nr. 274) vergleichbar. Das Motiv stellt diverse reale Architekturelemente zusammen: das Parkportal der Villa d'Este in Tivoli und die Maskenbalustrade der der Villa Conti in Frascati. Das Gebäude im Hintergrund geht auf die Villa Albani in Rom zurück.
