Französische Übersetzung (Gottfried Sellius +1767) der englischen OAusgabe von 1746. Henry Ellis, der spätere königlicher Gouverneur von Georgia (1757–1760), war Mitglied der Gesellschaft für die Entdeckung der Nordwestpassage und nahm an der Expedition als Mineraloge und Hydrograph teil. Der erste Teil enthält die Geschichte der Hudson's Bay Company und der früheren britischen Expeditionen, der Expeditionsbericht enthält u. a. auch naturwissenschaftliche Beobachtungen (Verhalten von Ebbe und Flut) und Schilderungen der Eskimos, ihres Lebens und ihrer Sitten. Der Weg durch die Hudson Bay wurde als aussichtslos erkannt, was für lange Jahrzehnte die weiteren britischen Erkundungen in diese Richtung behinderte
