"Bild I". 1930. Öl auf Leinwand. Verso signiert Alfred Arot, datiert und betitelt. 40,5x40,5 cm. Ohne Rahmen.
- Schmutzig, Fleck oben in der Mitte, einige feine Kratzer, etwas Kraquelé.
Provenienz:
- Sammlung eines ehemaligen Mitarbeiters von Alfred Roth.
- Durch Erbschaft in heutigen Schweizer Privatbesitz.
Ab 1927 arbeitete Alfred Roth bei Le Corbusier & Pierre Jeanneret in deren Architekturbüro in Paris und lernte im April 1928 Piet Mondrian kennen. Die beiden befreundeten sich in der Folge schnell.
1930 konnte Roth ein kleines, wunderbares Bild von Mondrian erwerben, das sich heute im Kunsthaus Zürich befindet. Offensichtlich wurde Roth – der schon immer mit beachtlichem Talent gemalt hatte – durch dieses Bild zu eigenen Versuchen angeregt. Die Fotos seiner eigenen Wohnungen zeigen immer die Preziose von Mondrian und daneben meist seine eigenen Versuche. Dass sich Alfred Roth, wie sein Mentor Le Corbusier, damals einen Künstlernamen zulegte, ist nicht weiter verwunderlich; das Werk ist mit «Alfred Arot» signiert.
Das hier angebotene Gemälde («Bild I») ist wohl eine erste gültige Antwort Alfred Roths auf die Arbeit von Mondrian.
